Oiseau de paradis

“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in - what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.”

I took a photo of Leo and created this effect using an app (Juxtaposer) on my phone a while back. It was really low resolution so I decided it was too good to not recreate using my camera. Leo is a lover of all things floral, so this suits him perfectly. The bird of paradise flower (Strelitzia) is used as the background pattern. I really love this image!

Xander James

Alexander and I teamed up to do a collaboration after I interviewed him for the Get It Magazine. We did a five minute photo shoot for the magazine and I asked him if he would like to do a series of fashion photographs. We chose the Moses Mabhida Stadium as a location, and I shot the series at about 11 am. This makes for interesting light play as the sun is quite high up in the sky at this time. The result is interesting with great shadows and super blue skies. I did minimal editing to the pictures, just the black and white conversions, some are straight out of the camera with no digital manipulation.  Alex is also one of the young designer finalists for the Vodacom Durban July 2016. Nomalanga “The Flame” Shozi

Larger then life hair and a personality to match, this is Nomalanga who also refers to herself as “The Flame”. I took these pictures of Nomalanga for the Get It magazine cover in December 2015. What an absolute beauty she is, and so natural in front of the camera. Definitely been one of my favourite personalities so far. Nomalanga is a popular DJ on Gagasi fm and a style icon around Durban.
